2026 Reading Plan
The Words of Jesus in Chronological Order
2026 Red Letter Church Challenge
Take the challenge in 2026 to return to the simple version of church we see in the New Testament. This is an invitation to move away from the emphasis on a single speaker, a band, or a building, and instead focus on Jesus' words, communion, and fellowship.
- Meet in a House. Gather in a simple home setting. Even if the group size is only 2 people, just start with that.
- Pray Together. Open the time with prayer.
- Read the Scripture. Read the day's text from the list below. Use the R.E.A.L discussion questions (below) to guide your group conversation.
- Take Communion. Pass the bread and take a piece; pass the grape juice or wine. Dip the bread, and take it together in remembrance of Jesus.
- Eat Together. Share a full meal in fellowship.
Methodology
This plan is designed to cover every recorded word of Jesus in a single year. It follows a chronological harmony of the Gospels. Where the same event or teaching is recorded in multiple Gospels (parallel passages), the most detailed or longest version is selected as the primary reading. This ensures you read the complete narrative without redundancy.
R.E.A.L. Questions for Weekly Bible Discussion
- Read: What is happening in this passage at a surface level? (Who, what, where?)
- Encounter: What does this passage reveal about the heart of Jesus or God?
- Assess: In what way does this passage challenge my current lifestyle or attitude?
- Live: What is one specific thing I will do differently this week because of these words?
